There’s quite a mix this week with lots of superheroes, comedy, action, drama and family fun. Something for everyone you might say…
Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice – The hotly anticipated showdown between the two biggest superheroes in the history of comic books is as complicated as it is controversial. It’s worth watching though for Ben Affleck’s older, more jaded Dark Knight and the long-awaited big screen debut of Wonder Woman played for all her magnificence by Gal Gadot. Available on Blu-ray too.
Elvis & Nixon – A lot of you have been curious about this one, and Liza Johnson’s film about the story behind the famous meeting features Michael Shannon as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and Kevin Spacey as Tricky Dick. Unlike current American politics, this is purposefully a comedy.
Hardcore Henry – Just another generic action movie, but with a twist: you experience every kick, punch, jump, shot and explosion from the first person perspective of the titular character. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but if you take your motion sickness meds, it’s a fun ride!
Kung Fu Panda 3 – The third movie in the Kung Fu Panda saga finds beloved martial arts master Po up against personal troubles when his father returns, and metaphysical troubles when a malevolent spirit starts defeating all the kung fu masters. Can Po beat the odds? What do you think?
Poldark Season 1 – In this dark drama from across the pond, Ross Poldark returns to England after the American Revolution to find his father dead, his land in ruins and the woman he loves engaged to his cousin. Oh yeah, they thought he was dead the whole time. That’s the way it is in 1790s Cornwall.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 – Nia Vardalos brings her expanded movie family back together again almost 15 years after the original to show that familial obsession and tinkering doesn’t skip a generation as Toula’s teen daughter Paris is now the one struggling with being Greek. Fans of the original will definitely want to check this out.
See you in the store!
