The Finest Hours – The epic true life tale told in typical Disney style. Chris Pine leads the cast as a Coast Guard office whose crew makes a daring rescue attempt off the coast of Cape Cod after a pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard in 1952. Eric Bana and Casey Affleck co-star, and we’ve got it on Blu-ray too.
City of Women – This is a new re-issue of the 1980 Italian film about a businessman who finds himself trapped at a hotel and threatened by women en masse. Not one of Federico Fellini best known films, but worth checking out just the same.
We Monsters – A complex drama from Germany about a separated couple who come back together to protect their daughter after she kills her best friend by covering up the crime. This was part of the Discovery program at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
The Last Panthers – An insurance adjuster, a former MI-6 officer, a French-Algerian cop, and a Serbian soldier-turned-thief all chase the same high profile diamond thieves across Europe after their latest heist gets a young girl killed. This is a 6-episode miniseries from SkyTV in Britain.
The Life of Verdi – From 1982, this 7 episode/11 hour PBS miniseries recounts the life and times of Giuseppe Verdi. Filmed on location in London, Paris and Italy, the drama chronicles the highs of Verdi’s professional accomplishments as a beloved opera composer, and the lows of his tragic personal life.
