Why did you put a piano on the street?
The short and immediate answer was to participate in Art on the Street and to celebrate 30 years of business in Downtown Guelph.
“But why a piano? Aren’t you afraid of vandalism or rain or graffiti or or?”
Well yes and no.
It’s an old piano and can’t hold a tuning, so I’m not really worried about it. A tarp will help when the weather gets wet. A supply of brightly coloured markers will encourage artist expression and ownership.
It has been played a lot by a variety of people. Mostly classical music but occasionally jazz, rock and kids tunes. Even a little percussion by the musically challenged has entertained our Baker Street friends.
The reason why I put a piano on the street is best put by Rob O’Flanagan. Cause it’s “Happy making!”.
