New movies for a great weekend

November 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hi all,

Here is a listing of our latest movie offerings. As usual there is a bit of everything with a couple of interesting food documentaries that come highly recommended.

Dirty Sexy Money S1: A lawyer is forced to take care of one of New York City’s wealthiest families.

Drag Me to Hell: Directed by Sam (Spiderman) Raimi. A loan officer ordered to evict an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse, which turns her life into a living hell. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.

Earth 2100: Documentary looking at what might become of our civilization in 2100.

Great Match: Story of 3 groups of people living in remote areas of the world all trying to get to a TV in order to see the final game of the 2002 World Cup.

Parks and Recreation S1: The abstract antics of an Indiana town’s public officials as they pursue random projects to make their city a better place.

Taking of Pelham 123: Directed by Tony (Top Gun) Scott. Armed men hijack a New York City subway train, holding the passengers hostage in return for a ransom, and turning an ordinary day’s work for dispatcher Walter Garber into a face-off with the mastermind behind the crime.

Trick or Treat: Four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.

Tudors S2: The second season of the hit series about the reign and marriages of King Henry VIII.

Wings of Desire: Carly’s Criterions. Wings of Desire (Der Himmel über Berlin) is one of cinema’s loveliest city symphonies. Bruno Ganz is Damiel, an angel perched atop buildings high over Berlin who can hear the thoughts—fears, hopes, and dreams—of all the people living below. But when he falls in love with a beautiful trapeze artist, he is willing to give up his immortality to come back to earth to be with her. Made not long before the fall of the Berlin Wall, this stunning tapestry of sounds and images, shot in black and white and color by the legendary Henri Alekan, is movie poetry. And it forever made the name Wim Wenders synonymous with film art.

Accidental Husband: Uma Thurman and Colin Firth star in this romcom about a talk radio host who discovers she has somehow become married to a man she has never met.

Act of God: Documentary explores what it is like to be hit by lightening through 7 unique stories. Features bestselling author Paul Auster & music by Fred Frith. From the director of Manufactured Landscapes.

Edgar and Ellen S1: Animated series based on the bestselling children’s book series about a pair of Gothic 12 year-old twins who love to cause mischief and play pranks on the inhabitants of their squeaky clean, sickly sweet town. 13 episodes on 2 discs.

Enlighten Up!: Well-crafted and even-handed documentary about a filmmaker & yoga enthusiast who invites a friend & yoga skeptic to try various forms of yoga for 6 months.

Food Beware: Emotional French documentary about a small mountain town struggling to change its farming practices from large scale industrial agriculture to the principles of organic farming.

Food, Inc.: An unflattering look inside America’s corporate controlled food industry.

French Chef with Julia Child: 18 episode collection of cooking legend Julia Child’s PBS series that helped introduce French cuisine to American kitchens. “First we start with some butter.”

My Sister’s Keeper: Anna Fitzgerald looks to earn medical emancipation from her parents who until now have relied on their youngest child to help their leukemia-stricken daughter Kate remain alive.

Spread: A sex comedy centered on a serial womanizer and his jilted lover.

Star Trek: A chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members.

What Would Jesus Buy?: Documentary follows Revered Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir on their cross-country mission to save the Holidays from the Shopocalypse.

Oz Complete 6 Seasons: A series chronicling the daily activities of an unusual prison facility and its criminal inhabitants.

We also have a huge selection of classic movie box sets for sale just in time for Christmas.

Cheers for now,
